What is Twinsonline?
Twinsonline is a website based in the UK created in 2003 by Sarah Cooper, mum to twin girls. It is still run by Sarah Cooper today
“I have twin girls – they’re 11 years old, I also have a little boy who is just 9 and a half. I started the website around 6 and a half years ago – as I wanted to pass on my information to other mums who might be going through the same things that I went through when raising my two, and to provide a meeting place for parents of twins to swap tips and questions and to help one another along the way.
I wanted Twinsonline to be positive and encouraging and supportive. I also wanted people to know that some of the things they were experiencing were things that other people experienced – so they didn’t feel quite so alone, especially if like me they had them as first time babies.
I also had a million and one questions that I wished I had someone to answer when my three were little so I guessed that other mums would have similar questions too and so set about answering all those questions I wished someone would have answered for me, when mine were little, in a way that was honest, straightforward and hopefully understandable!
I also wanted to hear from people from all over the world who have twins- and I have! Its really interesting hearing what other people experiences of parenting twins are like and how they get on with their twins and what worked for them.”
What was the idea behind Twinsonline?
Originally the main idea behind Twinsonline was to provide information for parents of twins to help them cope from pregnancy through to teenage, including the tricky toddler and tantrum stages as well as offer information about breastfeeding twins, weaning twins, and potty training. After receiving more and more emails from Adult Twins and their families so it was opened out to accommodate Adult twins and their siblings, and partners too.
What made me create a website about twins?
I felt that there was a need for parents of twins to have access to information which was written in a positive way that openly encouraged parents to enjoy caring for their twins. I also wanted to hear from other parents of twins and adult twins across the world to swap advice and tips.
I felt it was also very important to have experience of parenting twins in order to be able to write about it. I know what it is like to be up most of the night with two hungry babies, and still cope with life in the morning! I know what it feels like when both are crying and you’re not 100% certain which one to run to first! I know what it’s like when you’re weaning twins and you end up with more of their lunch down your jumper than they get down their tiny tummies! I’ve been there!! I’ve been through the tantrums and the toilet training, the wakeful nights, and survived to tell the tale!!
Does Twinsonline just support and advise parents of twins?
No! Twinsonline also offers support advice and information to adult twins, teenage twins, siblings of twins, grandparents of twins, anyone caring for twins, teachers of twins, partners of twins too.
