It is a good idea to have your hospital bag ready and packed and kept somewhere safe from about 34 weeks onwards.

It can be helpful to pack a separate bag for yourself and for your twins (even if you put these two bags into one suitcase to transport them! It can be useful to pack some carrier bags to put any dirty washing in to keep it separate from your clean stuff!

For yourself pack:

  • A large t-shirt or old nighty. It needs to be loose and comfortable and something you’d not mind getting messy
  • A fresh nighty or pyjamas
  • A battery powered hand held fan
  • Drinks and snacks
  • A couple of pairs of socks
  • Slippers
  • Dressing gown
  • Big pants – you can either buy disposable maternity pants or you can buy big granny knickers
  • Maternity Pads
  • Wash kit including a couple of flannels, soap, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb or brush etc
  • Phone charger
  • Mobile phone
  • A small amount of make up (optional)
  • Purse with some change and a contactless debit or credit card
  • Something to do like a book, crossword puzzle, magazine etc.
  • Change of clothes, something comfortable and easy to wear
  • 2 x Hand towels preferably in a dark colour
  • Massage oil
  • Nursing bra

For the twins

  •  2 x packs of newborn nappies
  • Cotton wool pleat
  • 1 x packet nappy sacks (optional)
  • Scratch mitts
  • Baby hats
  • 2 x baby towels
  • 2 x cardigans
  • 12-16 body suits (vests)
  • 12-16 sleep suits (baby grows)
  • 6-8 bibs, preferably the ones that have a t-shirt style neck or velcro, not the tie on type)
  • Muslin squares
  • Baby toiletaries (check with your midwife first, some advise using plain water for the first few weeks)

Put to one side for your partner to bring in when you go home

  • 2 x car seats
  • 2 x snow suits
  • 2 x blankets
  • Your coat
